It’s Labor Day weekend everybody!

Being a long weekend, you might be wondering what you’re going to do… you might be pondering taking a road trip, enjoying some local festivities, or even staying at home and relaxing. Regardless of which one you’re leaning towards, we have some events and ideas to give you, that will take the weekend up a notch!

SWEET TATER FESTIVAL

What: The 25th Annual Sweet Tater Festival

When: Sept. 5-6

BLUEGRASS AND CRAFTS FAIR

What: Music by Rock Bottom String Band, Sicard Hollow, Yellow Dandies and more.

When: Sept. 3-4. Music starts 6 p.m. on Friday, noon on Saturday.

Where: Horse Pens 40, 3525 St. Clair County 42, Steele.

Admission: $50 at gate, includes camping.

THE SIDEKICK SHOW WITH JR. AND SPECIAL K

What: Comedians perform.

When: Sept. 3-5, five performances at various times.

GEM AND MINERAL SHOW

What: Alabama Mineral & Lapidary Society presents the 49th annual show including rocks, minerals, gemstones, jewelry, fossils, children’s activities and more.

Admission: $5 adults, $3 teens, free for kids age 12 and younger.

ROCKET CITY TRASH PANDAS VS. TENNESSEE SMOKIES

What: Minor league baseball teams play in Southern League.

When: Sept. 3-5, Friday-Saturday at 6:35 p.m., Sunday at 2:35 p.m.

What: Zoo offers $10 admission to veterans, active and retired military and their dependents.

THE STOLEN FACES

What: Tribute bands performs music of the Grateful Dead.

When: Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m.

LABOR DAY ALL-WHITE AFFAIR

When: Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.

Lineup: Tucka, DJ Trucker, Cupid, Big Ro Williams, Pokey Bear. Hosted by MC Lightfoot.

LABOR DAY FESTIVAL AND MOON PIE EATING CONTEST

What: Barbecue, live music, MoonPie eating contest and more.

When: Sept. 6, starting at 8 a.m..

Where: Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park, 12632 Confederate Parkway, Bessemer.

Admission: $3-$5 park admission, free for kids age 5 and younger.

LIGHT UP LABOR DAY

What: Fireworks, DJ music, games and SPECTRA Laser Light Experience.

When: Sept. 6, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., fireworks at 8:45 p.m.

RUSSELL CROSSROADS RXR FEST

When: Sept. 3-4

Where: Three miles north of Lake Martin’s Kowaliga Bridge on Highway 63.

What: Russell Crossroads hosts RXR Fest each Labor Day. This year’s lineup includes the Bank Walkers, the Big Stitch, Adam Hood and Carolina Story. Festivities take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. both days. For more information, visit russelllands.com/blog/events.

WE THANK YOU CONCERT

What: Essential workers will be honored at the 1st Annual “We Thank You” concert. Featured artist is Chrisette Michele. There will also be local talent, such as Souled Out and Friends and The Emily Joseph Band. Food trucks and vendors will be on site. Tickets range from $10 – $750 and are available online at eventbrite.com

When: Sept. 5th from 3-7 p.m.

Where: Riverwalk Amphitheater in Montgomery.

GO TO THE ZOO

What: The Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum

Where: 2301 Coliseum Parkway in Montgomery

When: Monday Sept. 6 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. 

SPEND A DAY AT THE PARK, AND MAYBE GET WET

What: Pratt Pool will be open on Labor Day from 10 a.m. -5p.m.

When: Sept. 6 from 10 a.m.-5p.m.

Where: In Prattville, Pratt Pool will be open on Labor Day from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Admission and Info: Admission is $3 per person, with ages 3 and under free. The splash pad it open all weekend from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
